Origin of name

Family:

  • jackesiana is honour of Dr. Betsy Jackes

Occurrence

Occurs locally on slopes near the Pinnacles and on drier slopes of Magnetic Is. Restricted to just a few locations in Nth Qld and is uncommon.

Growth conditions not well known. Occurs on dry, rocky/stony slopes so may not need a lot of water, and probably requires good drainage. Grows amongst other, sparse, understorey plants in full sun. Should do well in rockeries.

Appearance

A sparse shrub to ~1m with long, very narrow leaves. Bright yellow, cylindrical flower heads (Feb) lead to flat, brown pods with pale margins.

Pollinated by native bees. Named in honour of Betsy Jackes AM, Adjunct Professor of Botany at JCU.
