Occurrence
Across northern Australia, in woodland on gravelly soils. Locally, on the slopes of Mt Stuart.
Growth conditions not well known. Appears to tolerate a range of soil types and to prefer full sun. Grows well in drier soils, but also will grow close to watercourses.
Appearance
A well-shaped shrub or small tree (3 -7m) with rough, corky bark and yellow, spherical flower heads. Leaves
grey-green. Flowers predominantly June-July.
Caterpillars of the Small Purple Line-blue butterfly feed on the flowers. Seeds reportedly used as bush tucker.
