Occurrence
A semi-deciduous tree of drier areas of Qld. Found locally in dry scrub/vine thickets, often in rocky areas.
Hardy, suited to hot, dry areas. Prefers well-drained, sunny site with moderate soil fertility. Drought resistant once established. Root system considered non-invasive.
Appearance
Tree (3-15m) with columnar trunk & shady canopy of large, maple-like leaves deciduous while flowering. White flower clusters (Jul-Sep) are followed by boat-shaped seed pods (~10cm).
Desirable bush tucker. Seeds tasty when roasted and irritant hairs removed. Ornamental tree with attractive canopy. Flowers strongly scented. Bonsai-suitable.
