Occurrence
A vine found locally in open forest as well as in monsoon forest and vine thickets.
Very hardy. Does best in full sun and well-drained soil. Responds to regular watering.
Appearance
A slender, trailing vine with stems (to ~1m) that can die back to rootstock in the dry. Long, narrow leaves (5–10 x 2-3cm) have bases with two large, rounded lobes. Cream/brown, tubular flowers lead to round fruit ripening to brown.
Unusual flowers are a feature. Food plant for caterpillars of Red-bodied Swallowtail and Big Greasy butterflies. Leaves can emit a strong odour when crushed.
