Occurrence
A gum tree growing locally in grassy woodlands on shallow soils of low to moderate fertility.
Prefers well-drained soil & full sun. Usually found as individual plants, rarely in clusters.
Appearance
Tall tree (10-20m) with smooth, white bark. Patches of brown bark often remain attached to trunk, especially at sites of insect damage, & at trunk base. Clusters of white flowers appear on outside of canopy (Nov-Dec), followed by ovoid, thin-walled capsules.
Prolific flowers attract insects and birds, including parrots and cockatoos. A useful honey and pollen source. Timber prone to termite attack and not considered valuable.
