Occurrence
Open woodlands on decomposed sandstone soils of Great Dividing Ra. from about Mareeba to central Qld.
Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Tolerates low soil fertility & extended periods of heat and dryness.
Appearance
Medium tree (to ~15m) with flaky, yellow/yellow-brown/yellow-grey bark and spreading canopy of narrow leaves. White/cream flowers occur on outer canopy (Nov-Mar), followed by woody, roughly spherical capsules (~15mm).
Abundant flowers attract insects and birds. Distinctive bark colour suits some landscaping applications. Spreading canopy provides good shade in dry areas.
