- Blackella in honour of Stanley Thatcher Blake
- leptoloma meaning “thin edges“
Occurrence
Not a local plant. Known only from a small area NW of Townsville, in remnant areas of wet sclerophyll forest.
Cultivation requirements aren’t certain. Natural habitat indicates a preference for full sun and good drainage and tolerance of extended periods of heat and dryness.
Appearance
Medium tree (to ~15m) with rough, grey-yellow bark & leaves paler below. White flowers occur on outer canopy & lead to woody, barrel-shaped capsules (~11mm).
Flowers will attract insects & birds. Listed as ‘vulnerable’ in both the Qld Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Australian Government EPBC Act 1999.
