- Acmella meaning “point or small tip“
- grandiflora meaning “large flowered“
Occurrence
A local plant of damp areas in open forest and grassland.
Requires adequate water and good drainage. Tolerates full sun but prefers part-shade. Can be short-lived but self-seeds readily.
Appearance
A sprawling daisy (to ~25cm) with linear leaves & often with red stems. Heads of yellow flowers (Oct-Apr) have conical centres and lead to numerous, 2-bristled seeds. Foliage can rehydrate after drought.
Indigenous use: Roots chewed (not swallowed) to relieve toothache. Attractive show of yellow flowers can be a feature in a bush-themed garden.
